The "Declaration on Nature" by the Muslim World League
The Declaration on Nature made by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Omar Naseef, secretary general of the Muslim World League, in Assisi at the first conference of the Alliance of Religions and Conservation and the World Wildlife Fund in 1986 establishes the key principles of Islamic care of creation, and thus of the oceans and its life.
An excellent resource on an Islamic spiritual ethic and guide to care of the oceans is found in:
Teachers Guidebook for Islamic Environmental Education:
Promoting Marine Conservation (Misali Island - Pemba, Tanzania)
by Fazlun Khalid and Ali Kh.Thani
(Islamic Foundation for Ecology and Environmental Science based in Birmingham, England)
Through the Alliance of Religions and Conservation, A Green Up! Toolkit has been made available for Mosques and Islamic organizations in England to encourage them to make their communities and infrastructure more in keeping with care of creation. Though the incentives and awards apply only in England, the methods and study materials apply to Islamic groups worldwide.
